History
Pulmonary Physicians of Kansas CIty (PPKC) was created when Dr. John R. Goheen and Dr. Timothy Smith decided to combine their individual practices and pool their resources. They opened their doors as a team in 1994 on the St. Joseph Medical Center campus and have remained there, servicing the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. In 1996, the group signed on Dr. A. Cosmo Caruso as a board certified Sleep Medicine and Critical Care Specialist. In 2003, Dr. Smith enlisted a nurse practitioner to assist him with his routine follow up patients, due to an increase in demand from our patient base. In 2003, the physicians completed over 25,000 in-patient and out-patient visits combined. After an extensive search, the group signed Dr. Patrick J. Perkins to join the group in the summer of 2008, just in time for Dr. Goheen to retire from private practice on July 1, 2008. On January 1, 2011, all the physicians and employees of PPKC became part of the Carondelet Physician Services family and are now providing services as Pulmonary Physicians of Carondelet.

Our Qualifications
All of our physicians are board certified. Board certified physicians must participate in an extensive process that involves completing accredited education and specialty training and secured computer exams to demonstrate competency in order to maintain their certification.
